How It Works

For overseeding, we use certified Canadian seed blends selected specifically for your region. Most Canadian lawns perform best with a blend of three species: Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa pratensis) for self-repair and winter hardiness, Perennial Ryegrass (Lolium perenne) for rapid establishment and wear tolerance, and Fine Fescue (Festuca spp.) for shade tolerance and low-maintenance areas. We source our seed from Canadian Seed Growers' Association certified producers, ensuring germination rates of 85 percent or higher and freedom from weed seed contamination.

Our overseeding process uses a slit-seeder (also called a slice-seeder) that cuts shallow grooves into the soil surface and deposits seed directly into these grooves. This mechanical method provides significantly better seed-to-soil contact than broadcast spreading alone, improving germination rates by 30 to 50 percent. Before seeding, we recommend core aeration to further improve soil conditions and create additional seed-catching pockets. A starter fertilizer high in phosphorus — such as a 10-20-10 blend — is applied at the same time to support rapid root development in the new seedlings.
